Guardian App: 70K downloads in a month
The Guardian App has been downloaded from the App Store almost 70,000 times since its launch last month. The app is also now available in most European countries, as well as Australia, Canada and the US, having initially launched in the UK, Ireland and US.
Up to and including Tuesday 12 January 2010, the Guardian App has been downloaded 68,979 times from the App Store. The app launched on Monday 14 December 2009.
Emily Bell, Director of Digital Content, Guardian News & Media, said: “We are thrilled with our download figures for the first month of the app. The feedback we have received from users has been excellent, yet also extremely informative in terms of features and functionality that can be improved in the future. Over the Christmas break the app became available in many areas of mainland Europe, as well as in Canada and Australia for the first time, so we hope our global audiences will enjoy using the app as well.”
Designed by an in-house team and built by 2ergo, the Guardian App for iPhone and iPod touch showcases news, comment, features, photo galleries and audio from guardian.co.uk through a range of features that can be personalised to each user. The app also enables the user to effortlessly browse the latest content most relevant to them, even offline.
