Android app developers can now be relieved as Google increases app size limit to 4GB

6th April 2012

Finally, google has lifted the barrier and now the size limit on its Android apps is 4GB, which previously was 50MB. Although, it would be difficult for the users to download and run the app, the company stated that any advancement in app development will require more resources. Android app developers can attach two expansion files, each with upto 2GB to the APK, the file size of which would still remain 50MB.

The expansion files will be downloaded immediately on the new devices while on older devices they get downloaded the very first time the app runs, via a downloader library.
