Mobile advertising to top £1billion
In 2013, mobile advertising is predicted to break the £1billion mark – an increase of over 90% from 2012. This will account for more than 7% of the UK’s total ad spend, surpassing the spends of magazine, radio or outdoor advertising.
Last year’s total of £526million had already blitzed 2011’s £203million and predictions from eMarketer suggest the figures could reach as high as £3.7billion in 2017. That figure will account for 44% of the UK’s total digital advertising spend, which also includes display, search and classifieds.
Despite the lingering economic struggles, the digital industry continues to grow, along with the adoption of smartphones and tablets in the UK.
The total digital advertising spend is predicted to reach over £6billion this year, over half of which is predictably from search advertising, mainly thanks to Google’s AdWords.
And it appears advertisers are correct to invest their budgets online, as the average UK internet user will spend £127 this year – more than four times the worldwide average.
